I know you appreciate discussion, so here's my two cents... Like many decisions in life, one must discern and decide if something is good ("good" in this case meaning consistent with their values and beliefs).

Music in advertising isn't all bad. To believe that would be to say there aren't any good and worthwhile brands, companies, products, services...people in the world. Sometimes I feel as though music in advertising is presented as a black and white topic...when in reality, there may be a lot more grey areas than many would care to admit.

Super Furry Animals‘s rejection of Coca-Cola's money because of the way the company treated South American workers seems noble to me.

It's the responsibility of each person - moreover, each individual artist to discern and decide what opportunities are consistent with their own values and beliefs and those that are not. Essentially, it's a similar approach to how I shop for groceries. When I'm grocery shopping, I work to find things consistent with my values and beliefs with respect to local and global economies, sustainability, responsibly, ethics, etc.

While it may be challenging, it's possible for artists to find good, responsible opportunities in advertising and commercial endeavors.

For many artists, especially those who are starving and financially struggling, the opportunity to discern good opportunities and make the most of them is worth celebrating, in my opinion.

Hi Drew,
I don't know you but have a deep respect for you and your work. This article's a good one. His point about fans wanting to take care of their artists reminded me of the community’s response to your recent accident.

Hey Drew, heard about your accident from a mutual friend (Jamie Dean/Blood). We played a few shows together years ago when you were part of Careen, and I was with Scarlet Parkway (also Late Tuesday and Typical Ace). Glad to hear you are recovering and taking this with a positive attitude. :)
